Bangladesh are a Full Member of the ICC, elected on 26 June 2000 as the tenth Test-playing nation, having joined as an Associate Member in 1977. They are governed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), founded in 1972 as the Bangladesh Cricket Control Board and renamed in January 2007. Bangladesh played their first Test match on 10 November 2000 against India at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka, and their first T20I on 28 November 2006 against Zimbabwe at the Khulna Divisional Stadium.

Bangladesh have yet to win an ICC title. Their best Cricket World Cup finish was reaching the quarter-finals in 2015, and they advanced to the semi-finals of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. In the T20 World Cup they have reached the Super 8s, in 2007 and again in 2024. They have also been runners-up at the Asia Cup three times, in 2012, 2016 and 2018.

Bangladesh's home international grounds include the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, which also houses the BCB headquarters, the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, and the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet.

Najmul Hossain Shanto captains Bangladesh in Tests. Mehidy Hasan Miraz leads the ODI side, and Litton Das captains the T20I team.
