England are a founding Full Member of the ICC, having joined the Imperial Cricket Conference at its formation in 1909, and are governed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), founded on 1 January 1997 to replace the Test and County Cricket Board. England played the first ever Test match from 15 to 19 March 1877 against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and their first T20 International on 13 June 2005, also against Australia.

England have won the ICC Cricket World Cup once, in 2019, beating New Zealand in the Lord's final on 14 July after the match and the subsequent Super Over both finished tied, with England taking the title on boundary count under captain Eoin Morgan. England have also won the ICC T20 World Cup twice, in 2010 under Paul Collingwood, who beat Australia by seven wickets in Bridgetown, and in 2022 under Jos Buttler, who beat Pakistan by five wickets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. England have never won the ICC Champions Trophy, finishing runners-up in 2004 and 2013.

England's home international grounds include Lord's and The Oval in London, Edgbaston in Birmingham, Old Trafford in Manchester, Headingley in Leeds, and Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

Ben Stokes captains England in Test cricket, having taken charge in 2022 alongside head coach Brendon McCullum. Harry Brook leads the ODI and T20I sides, having succeeded Jos Buttler as white-ball captain in April 2025.

For international fans, a standard England home white-ball start of 14:00 BST converts to 13:00 GMT in London, 09:00 EDT in New York, and 23:00 AEST in Sydney. Home Test matches usually begin at 11:00 BST, which is 10:00 GMT. Check England time for live conversions.
