India are one of the founding Full Members of the ICC, elected on 31 May 1926, and governed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), founded on 1 December 1928. India played their first Test match on 25 June 1932 against England at Lord's.
India have won 2 ICC Cricket World Cup titles (1983, 2011) and 3 ICC T20 World Cup titles (2007, 2024, 2026). The 1983 victory at Lord's under Kapil Dev remains one of cricket's greatest upsets, while the 2011 triumph on home soil under MS Dhoni fulfilled a 28-year wait. The 2024 T20 World Cup was won undefeated in the USA and West Indies, defeating South Africa by 7 runs in the final. India defended the title in 2026, beating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, becoming the first team to win back-to-back T20 World Cups and the first to win the tournament three times.
India's home international grounds include the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad (the world's largest cricket stadium), Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, and the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi.
Shubman Gill captains India in Tests and ODIs, having taken over following the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket. Suryakumar Yadav leads the T20I side and captained the successful 2026 T20 World Cup campaign.
For international fans, India's standard T20 and ODI start time of 19:30 IST converts to 14:00 GMT in London, 10:00 EDT in New York, and 01:00 AEDT (next day) in Sydney. Test matches begin at 09:30 or 10:00 IST, which is 04:00-04:30 GMT. Check India time for live conversions.
