Ireland are a Full Member of the ICC, awarded Test status on 22 June 2017 as the eleventh Full Member. The team is governed by Cricket Ireland, formerly the Irish Cricket Union, which traces its founding to 1923, with 1927 marked as its anniversary once all four provincial unions had joined. Ireland had been an Associate Member since 6 July 1993. They played their first Test match from 11 to 15 May 2018 against Pakistan at The Village in Malahide, and recorded their first Test victory against Afghanistan.

Ireland have yet to win an ICC global title, but they have produced some of tournament cricket's most famous upsets. At the 2007 World Cup they reached the Super 8 stage on debut, beating Pakistan on St Patrick's Day. At the 2011 World Cup they chased down England's 327 in Bangalore, with Kevin O'Brien striking the fastest century in World Cup history off 50 balls. At the 2015 World Cup they beat the West Indies and the UAE.

Ireland's home international grounds include The Village in Malahide and Castle Avenue at Clontarf, both in Dublin, Stormont in Belfast, and the Bready ground in the north west.

Andrew Balbirnie captains Ireland in Test cricket. Paul Stirling captains the side in ODIs.

For international fans, Irish summer internationals are played while London is on British Summer Time and Sydney is on Australian Eastern Standard Time. Check Ireland time for live conversions.
