South Africa are a Full Member of the ICC and one of the three founder members of the Imperial Cricket Conference in 1909, alongside England and Australia. The team was suspended from international cricket during the apartheid era and was re-admitted to the ICC in 1991. South African cricket is governed by Cricket South Africa (CSA), which traces its modern governance to the United Cricket Board of South Africa, formed in 1991 when the country's separate cricket bodies merged. South Africa played their first Test match on 12 March 1889 against England at St George's Park in Port Elizabeth, becoming the third Test nation.

South Africa won the 2025 ICC World Test Championship, beating Australia by five wickets at Lord's on 14 June 2025, with Aiden Markram scoring 136 in the final. It was their first major ICC men's trophy since the 1998 ICC KnockOut Trophy, the inaugural edition of the Champions Trophy, which they won under Hansie Cronje by defeating West Indies in the final in Dhaka on 1 November 1998. South Africa have reached numerous World Cup semi-finals and finished runners-up at the 2024 T20 World Cup, but they have not yet won a 50-over Cricket World Cup or a T20 World Cup.

South Africa's home international grounds include Newlands in Cape Town, the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, Kingsmead in Durban, SuperSport Park in Centurion, and St George's Park in Gqeberha.

Temba Bavuma captains South Africa in Tests and ODIs, having led the side to their 2025 World Test Championship triumph. Aiden Markram leads the T20I side, having captained the team to the 2024 T20 World Cup final.

For international fans, a typical home T20I start time of 18:00 SAST converts to 16:00 GMT in London, 11:00 EST in New York, and 03:00 AEDT (next day) in Sydney. Day-night ODIs usually begin at 13:30 SAST and Tests at 10:00 SAST. Check South Africa time for live conversions.
