West Indies are a Full Member of the ICC, having joined the Imperial Cricket Conference in 1926 and acquired Test status in 1928. The team is governed by Cricket West Indies (CWI), which began as the West Indies Cricket Board of Control founded in 1927, became the West Indies Cricket Board in 1996, and adopted its present name in 2017. West Indies played their first Test match against England at Lord's on 23-26 June 1928.

West Indies are one of the most decorated sides in cricket history. They won the first two Cricket World Cups, beating Australia by 17 runs at Lord's in 1975 and England by 92 runs at Lord's in 1979, both under Clive Lloyd. They have also won two ICC T20 World Cups, defeating Sri Lanka by 36 runs in Colombo in 2012 and England by four wickets at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, in 2016, and the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy, beating England by two wickets at The Oval in London.

West Indies stage home internationals across the Caribbean. Their grounds include Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain, Sabina Park in Kingston, the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium near St John's, the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Gros Islet, and Providence Stadium in Georgetown.

Roston Chase captains West Indies in Tests, having been appointed in 2025. Shai Hope leads the side in both ODIs and T20Is, holding the white-ball captaincy across both limited-overs formats.

The Caribbean keeps Atlantic Standard Time (UTC-4) year round, so a standard home day start of 09:30 local converts to 13:30 GMT in London, 09:30 EDT in New York, and 23:30 AEST in Sydney. Day-night matches that begin at 13:30 local fall at 17:30 GMT, 13:30 EDT, and 03:30 AEST the next day. Check Barbados time for live conversions.
