Manchester United play in the Premier League at Old Trafford (74,310) in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England.

Old Trafford is the largest club ground in England. It opened in 1910, was partially destroyed by German bombing in 1941, and reopened in 1949. The Theatre of Dreams, as it was named by Bobby Charlton, hosted European nights that define what the competition means in England: the 1999 Champions League final against Bayern Munich, won in injury time with two Teddy Sheringham goals (the second by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the near post in the 93rd minute) standing above all others. It is currently undergoing a major redevelopment.

The Ferguson years from 1986 to 2013 are the central fact of Manchester United’s modern identity. Sir Alex Ferguson won 13 Premier League titles in 21 seasons, two Champions League trophies, five FA Cups, and four League Cups. The 1998-99 Treble remains unique in English football. Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney: the list of players who became their own footballing generation at Old Trafford is longer than at any other English club.

The 13 years since Ferguson’s retirement have produced one league title in 2012-13, his final season, and then nothing. Four permanent managers and several caretakers have followed. Erik ten Hag won the FA Cup in 2024, ending a six-year major trophy drought, but was dismissed that autumn. Ruben Amorim, appointed from Sporting CP in November 2024, inherited a squad requiring substantial reconstruction.

Marcus Rashford, who came through the academy at 11 years old, Bruno Fernandes, the Portuguese midfielder who has been the most creative player in the squad since arriving in January 2020, and Kobbie Mainoo, 19 years old and playing with the assurance of someone a decade older, represent the current team’s most identifiable names.

The Manchester derby against City, played home and away each season, is the fixture the city measures itself by.

Manchester United play on GMT in winter and BST (UTC+1) in summer. A 20:00 Thursday Europa League kickoff is 15:00 in New York and 04:00 in Hong Kong. The club has an enormous global following; supporters checking Manchester time span every continent and time zone.
