AS Roma, based at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, which they share with Lazio, have won 3 Serie A titles and 1 UEFA Conference League trophy, the latter in 2022 under José Mourinho.

The Conference League win in Tirana on May 25, 2022, was Roma’s first European trophy in their 95-year history. When the final whistle went against Feyenoord in a 1-0 win decided by Nicolò Zaniolo’s goal, tens of thousands of Roma supporters had travelled to Albania and thousands more were gathered in Piazza del Popolo in Rome. The emotion was not proportional to the prestige of the competition; it was proportional to how long the club had waited. Forty years had passed since Roma reached the European Cup final in 1984 and lost to Liverpool on penalties in their own stadium.

Mourinho was sacked in January 2024 with Roma in mid-table and replaced by Daniele De Rossi, the former club captain who had managed in the lower leagues. De Rossi’s appointment was as much symbolic as tactical: Roma were returning to someone who understood what the club means. Paulo Dybala, whose relationship with the city has been one of the most warm connections between a foreign player and an Italian fanbase in recent memory, provides the attacking intelligence. Lorenzo Pellegrini captains a squad trying to close the gap on Milan and Inter.

The Stadio Olimpico, shared with Lazio, creates a unique configuration: the same venue hosts the two most heated derbies in Italian football, the Derby della Capitale, four times a season.
