Christophe Lemaire

Christophe Lemaire is a French flat jockey who has lived and ridden in Japan for over a decade, becoming a naturalized Japanese resident and one of the most successful foreign riders in the history of the Japan Racing Association. He has won the JRA Leading Jockey title multiple times, competing against Japan's deep pool of domestic talent.

Lemaire began his career in France, where he was champion apprentice, before gravitating toward Japan's lucrative racing circuit. The transition was not merely geographical; he committed fully to Japanese racing culture, learning the language and adapting his riding style to suit the country's unique racecourses and training methods. His Japan Cup victories, Japan Derby wins, and sustained dominance across the Japanese Group 1 programme place him in rare company. He has won on horses trained by Japan's leading operations, including those of Kazuo Fujisawa, Yasuo Tomomichi, and other elite conditioners.

He is also likely to ride at the Hong Kong International Races, where Japanese-trained horses regularly compete, and he has taken occasional mounts at Royal Ascot and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
