Fuji Speedway sits at the base of Mount Fuji on the western slopes of the Shizuoka Prefecture, roughly 100 kilometres southwest of Tokyo. The circuit's current 4.563-kilometre layout, established in 2005, is the fourth configuration since the venue opened in 1965 and features one of the most recognisable sections in Japanese motorsport: a 1.475-kilometre main straight that feeds into a tight hairpin at the end. That combination of high-speed blast and heavy braking creates one of the clearest overtaking opportunities on the WEC calendar. The surrounding mountain scenery, with Fuji often visible behind the pit complex on clear autumn days, gives the circuit an atmosphere unlike any other on the schedule.

Toyota purchased Fuji Speedway in 2000, and the circuit functions as the Japanese manufacturer's effective home race within the World Endurance Championship. The 6 Hours of Fuji returned to the WEC calendar with the championship's inaugural modern season in 2012, and Toyota has won nine of the fourteen editions held in the modern WEC era of the race, making Fuji one of the most dominant home-circuit records in contemporary motorsport. The 2026 race is Round 6 of the season, scheduled for September 27.

For the 2026 season, Toyota arrives at Fuji having already won the opening round at Imola with the TR010 Hybrid. The home crowd backing at Fuji is substantial, with Japanese fans deeply invested in Toyota Racing's WEC programme. A Fuji victory carries particular emotional weight for the team, representing more than points in the championship; it matters to the engineers, drivers, and Toyota Group employees who follow the programme from Japan throughout the year.

The late September timing typically brings comfortable temperatures and the possibility of misty or wet conditions, which have featured in several editions of the race. In the context of the 2026 championship, the Fuji result will be one of the last opportunities for manufacturers to separate themselves from rivals before the Middle East double-header of Qatar and Bahrain closes the season.
