The Circuit de la Sarthe is not a conventional racing circuit but a hybrid of permanent track sections and temporarily closed public roads forming a 13.626-kilometre triangle southwest of the city of Le Mans in France. Its layout runs south from the pits toward Mulsanne, swings northwest through Arnage, and returns north past the famous Ford Chicanes and Dunlop Bridge to the start-finish line. Modern Hypercars complete laps at average speeds exceeding 240 km/h, with peak speeds on the Mulsanne straight, now interrupted by two chicanes added in 1990 for safety, regularly reaching 330 km/h or more. The sheer variety of corners, from the flat-out Porsche Curves to the slow Arnage hairpin, makes the circuit one of the most technically demanding in endurance racing.
The 94th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans takes place on June 13 to 14, 2026, starting at 16:00 CEST. It is Round 3 of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship and the centrepiece of the entire season. A total of 62 cars are entered across the Hypercar, LMP2, and LMGT3 categories, with 18 Hypercars representing eight manufacturers: Aston Martin, Toyota, Cadillac, BMW, Genesis, Ferrari, Alpine, and Peugeot. The absence of Porsche from the Hypercar class, following the Stuttgart manufacturer's withdrawal from the WEC at the end of 2025 to focus on the IMSA GTP programme, is notable given Porsche's record 19 overall Le Mans victories.
Ferrari arrives as the dominant force, having won three consecutive editions of the race in 2023, 2024, and 2025. The 2023 win with the #51 499P of Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado, and Antonio Giovinazzi ended a 58-year wait for Ferrari at Le Mans. The 2024 and 2025 victories followed.
For 2026, the field includes the debut of Genesis Magma Racing as the first Korean constructor in Le Mans history. Toyota's redesigned TR010 Hybrid, rebranded from the GR010 designation it carried since 2021, seeks to end Ferrari's stranglehold. BMW, fresh from its breakthrough Spa victory, arrives as a genuine contender. The Le Mans result will shape the championship picture substantially, given the race awards 1.5x points compared to standard six-hour rounds.
