Porsche Penske Motorsport is no longer competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship. The German manufacturer announced in October 2025 that it would not continue its WEC Hypercar programme beyond the end of that season, withdrawing after just three years of competition with the 963 LMDh. The decision was driven primarily by financial pressures within the Volkswagen Group, as weakening sales in key markets and slower-than-expected EV adoption contributed to significant losses at the corporate level.

During its three seasons, Porsche Penske Motorsport achieved genuine results. The factory programme scored race wins during its three-season WEC programme and secured a runners-up finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Customer team Hertz Team JOTA added a fourth victory for the 963 platform at the 2024 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.

Porsche's frustration with the WEC was not purely financial. The manufacturer had been among the most vocal advocates for merging the LMH and LMDh technical regulations into a single unified ruleset, arguing that the current dual-standard system created unnecessary complexity in the Balance of Performance process. That regulatory disagreement coloured the team's final months in the championship, even as the 963 delivered its best season results on track.

The Porsche 963 continues to race in North America under the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTP class, where it remains a competitive and well-developed machine. The WEC chapter for Porsche is closed for now, but endurance racing and the Porsche name have been linked for six decades, and the door to a future return has not been shut definitively by either side.
