The Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari occupies a curve of the Santerno river valley in Imola, a town in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy roughly 40 kilometres east of Bologna. The circuit measures 4.909 kilometres and threads 19 corners through a layout that runs anti-clockwise, one of the few major circuits in the world to do so. The lap demands continuous rhythm: quick direction changes through the Acque Minerali section, a punishing kerb at Tamburello, and the double left-hander of Rivazza before a short blast to the start-finish line. There is very little opportunity to recover from a mistake, which gives qualifying and the opening laps of any race here an outsized importance.

The track opened for motorcycle racing in 1953 under the name Autodromo di Imola, then became the Autodromo Dino Ferrari in 1957 following the death of Enzo Ferrari's son Alfredo. Enzo Ferrari's own name was added after his death in 1988. Formula One visited for the first time in 1980 for the Italian Grand Prix, and a dedicated race for the circuit, the San Marino Grand Prix, ran on the calendar from 1981 to 2006. The 1994 San Marino Grand Prix brought the most tragic chapter in the circuit's history when Ayrton Senna was killed during the race, an event that triggered fundamental safety changes across international motorsport. Formula One returned after a long absence in 2020 for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and the race has appeared periodically on the calendar since.

In the 2026 WEC season, Imola hosted the championship opener on April 19 following the postponement of the Qatar round due to regional geopolitical factors. A 35-car field took the start for the 6 Hours of Imola, with 17 Hypercar entries and 18 LMGT3 cars representing 14 manufacturers. The tight and technical nature of the circuit made overtaking rare and placed a strong premium on qualifying pace and pit-stop strategy. The World Endurance Championship has used Imola as an opening round in recent seasons, and the compact circuit creates close racing with limited run-off that keeps tension high throughout a six-hour distance.
