Ashleigh Ann Buhai (née Simon) was born on 11 May 1989 in Johannesburg, South Africa. She competes on both the LPGA Tour and the Ladies European Tour, and is best known for winning the 2022 AIG Women's Open, the women's major held at Muirfield in Scotland.

Buhai turned professional the day after her 18th birthday and immediately announced herself as a player of rare talent: her third event as a professional, the 2007 Catalonia Ladies Masters on the Ladies European Tour, was a victory that made her the youngest ever professional winner on that circuit. She remained a prolific winner in Europe and Australia over the following years, racking up more than 20 professional wins across multiple tours before earning her LPGA Tour card through qualifying school ahead of the 2014 season. Her breakthrough on the LPGA came with the 2022 AIG Women's Open itself, which was her first LPGA Tour title, followed by back-to-back ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open titles in 2022 and 2023, and a second LPGA Tour win at the 2023 ShopRite LPGA Classic.

The 2022 AIG Women's Open win at Muirfield remains the defining chapter of her career. Buhai entered the final round with a five-shot lead and finished tied with South Korea's In Gee Chun at ten under par. The two players went four holes into a sudden-death playoff before Buhai made par on the fourth extra hole to win the championship.
