Mountain Ridge is a club with a layered architectural history. Founded in 1912 by a group of businessmen, the original course was in West Orange, where A.W. Tillinghast created a layout during the winter of 1916-17 around the same period he went on to design Baltusrol, Winged Foot, and Baltimore Five Farms. When a utility company purchased the West Orange property in 1928, the club hired Donald Ross to route a new 18-hole course on the current West Caldwell site. Ross attended the clubhouse dedication in June 1931. The Clifford Wendehack clubhouse and Ross's course, with its varied topography and crafted putting surfaces, have defined the club since. A major renovation around 2009 by Ron Prichard, a specialist in Ross restorations, removed nearly 1,000 trees and restored the strategic sight lines Ross intended.

The Mizuho Americas Open is unique on the LPGA Tour for its dual format, pairing professionals with elite juniors. The concept showcases the current generation alongside the next, and the competitive rounds count fully on the LPGA Tour schedule. The field is headlined by players including Jeeno Thitikul, Lottie Woad, Patty Tavatanakit, and Charley Hull. Mizuho Financial Group, one of Japan's three major banking groups, sponsors the event, connecting Japanese corporate presence with American women's golf in a state with a deep tradition in both.
