Charley Hoffman

Charley Lindley Hoffman is an American professional golfer born on December 27, 1976, in San Diego, California, and raised in Poway. He has competed on the PGA Tour for more than two decades and reached a career-high Official World Golf Ranking of 20th in August 2017. A longtime presence in the field at The Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and The Open Championship, Hoffman is regarded as a durable tour veteran.

Hoffman grew up competing in California junior golf, winning the state high school championship in both 1994 and 1995, becoming the first player to win it twice. He went on to attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), where he was a member of the 1998 NCAA championship team alongside future tour players Adam Scott, Chad Campbell, and Chris Riley. He graduated in 2000 with a degree in communications and turned professional that same year. His first PGA Tour win came at the 2007 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, and he added victories at the 2010 Deutsche Bank Championship, the 2014 OHL Classic at Mayakoba, and the 2016 Valero Texas Open. His best finishes in the majors include a tie for ninth at the 2015 Masters at Augusta National and a tie for eighth at the 2017 U.S. Open. He was named a captain's pick for the 2017 Presidents Cup, which the United States won 19-11.

Hoffman is known for a compact, powerful swing built around width at impact and a head position kept well behind the ball through contact, a setup that has historically given him a reliable driving game. His most memorable week came in the opening round of the 2017 Masters, where he fired a 65 in windy conditions to lead the field by four strokes, the largest first-round lead at Augusta National since 1955. He did not convert that lead into a title, but the performance cemented his reputation as a player capable of competing at the highest level when his ball-striking is on.
