Woon-jung "Chella" Choi was born on August 25, 1990, in Daegu, South Korea, and has been a fixture on the LPGA Tour since earning her card at the 2008 Final Qualifying Tournament. Based in Jacksonville, Florida, she is among a generation of South Korean players who have shaped women's professional golf over the past two decades.
Choi turned professional in 2008 and contested her first full LPGA season in 2009. Her breakthrough season came in 2013, when she registered multiple top-ten finishes. Her lone LPGA title arrived on July 19, 2015, at the Marathon Classic, where she defeated Jang Ha-na in a playoff after 157 tour events and seven years without a win. Throughout that stretch, her father served as her caddie, having vowed to stay in the bag until she won. In 2014 she received the William and Mousie Powell Award, voted by LPGA Tour members each year to a player who best exemplifies the values of the tour. Her best major result is a third-place finish at the 2017 KPMG Women's PGA Championship, where she co-led entering the final round before finishing at 10-under par.
