Hector Emiliano Grillo was born on September 14, 1992, in Resistencia, Chaco, Argentina, and has built a decade-long career on the PGA Tour as one of South America's most consistent professionals. He plays primarily on the PGA Tour and has previously competed on the European Tour.

Grillo turned professional in 2011 and earned European Tour status through Qualifying School before crossing to the PGA Tour. In his first season as a full PGA Tour member he won the 2015 Frys.com Open, defeating Kevin Na in a playoff, and was voted PGA Tour Rookie of the Year for the 2015-16 season. After nearly eight years without a victory he returned to the winners' circle at the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge for his second PGA Tour title. His best major result came later that same summer with a tie for sixth at The Open Championship.

Grillo is regarded as an elite ball-striker who generates clubhead speed well beyond what his 5-foot-9 frame would suggest. His putting has historically been the area that separates him from the very top of the world rankings, though his iron play and driving accuracy keep him competitive each week. He has represented Argentina at the 2016 Rio Olympics and in the 2017 Presidents Cup for the International team.
