Eric James Cole (born June 12, 1988, Palm Springs, California) is an American professional golfer who competes full-time on the PGA Tour. Cole is the son of two professional golfers: his father Bobby Cole, who won the 1977 Buick Open on the PGA Tour, and his mother Laura Baugh, the 1973 LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year. Cole's path to golf's top circuit is one of the more unconventional in recent memory.
After attending Nova Southeastern University, Cole turned professional in 2009 but spent more than a decade competing on the Minor League Golf Tour, accumulating 56 wins there while repeatedly falling short at PGA Tour Qualifying School. He earned his Korn Ferry Tour card in 2017 and finally secured his PGA Tour card after finishing third at the 2022 Korn Ferry Tour Championship.
Cole's debut PGA Tour season, in 2022-23, was exceptional. At 35, he won the Arnold Palmer Award as PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, making him the second-oldest recipient of that honor since its 1990 introduction. His best finish that season came in a playoff at the Honda Classic, where he lost to Chris Kirk on the first extra hole. He has also made appearances at the sport's biggest events, posting a T15 at the 2023 PGA Championship and a T31 at the 2024 The Open Championship. Cole brings a methodical, consistent game built over years of grinding on the mini-tour circuit.
