Gaby Lopez -- full name Maria Gabriela Lopez Butron -- was born on November 9, 1993, in Mexico City, Mexico. She competes on the LPGA Tour and has established herself as one of the leading players from Latin America in women's professional golf. Ranked inside the top 40 in the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings at the close of 2025, Lopez has built a career defined by resilience and steady improvement across more than a decade on tour.
Lopez was introduced to golf by her father at age five and showed early promise, winning the Girls 15-17 division at the Callaway Junior World Golf Championship in 2010. She went on to attend the University of Arkansas, where she won three collegiate events and finished as individual runner-up at the 2015 NCAA Division I Championship. She turned professional that same year and earned full LPGA Tour membership in 2016. Her three LPGA wins came at the 2018 Blue Bay LPGA, the 2020 Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions (won in a playoff), and the 2022 Dana Open. Her best result in a women's major came at the 2023 Amundi Evian Championship, where she finished tied for third. Beyond tour wins, she has represented Mexico at three consecutive Olympic Games -- Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024 -- and served as co-flagbearer for Mexico at the Tokyo opening ceremony.
Lopez is regarded as an all-around player with a compact, aggressive swing and notable accuracy on approach shots. Her 2022 Dana Open victory was built on iron play that saw her hit greens at a high rate across the tournament. She has continued to compete at the top level into the 2026 LPGA season, posting multiple top-25 finishes.
