J.J. Spaun (born August 21, 1990) is an American professional golfer from Los Angeles, California, who plays on the PGA Tour. He holds three PGA Tour titles and reached a career-high ranking of fifth in the Official World Golf Ranking in April 2026. His headline achievement is the 2025 U.S. Open championship, won at Oakmont Country Club by two strokes, making him the only player to finish under par for the week.

Spaun attended San Diego State University, where he earned two All-America honors and was named the 2012 Mountain West Conference Player of the Year. He turned professional in 2012 and spent years grinding through the minor tours before earning a PGA Tour card in 2016. His first Tour victory came at the 2022 Valero Texas Open. A runner-up finish at the 2025 Players Championship signaled a turning point. At Oakmont, he played the week at 1-under 279, a total that included a 64-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole, capping a back-nine 32 in the final round to overcome a front-nine 40. He returned to the Valero Texas Open in April 2026 and won again at 17-under, beating Robert MacIntyre, Michael Kim, and Matt Wallace by a stroke for his third PGA Tour title.

Spaun's game is built on accurate iron play and improving putting. He ranks among the tour leaders in strokes gained: approach the green and has climbed from outside the top 100 in strokes gained: putting to a consistent top-50 presence. The 2025 U.S. Open victory underscored his mental resilience, and winning at Oakmont confirmed a real shift in his game management and composure.

As reigning U.S. Open champion, Spaun enters the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills as a fully exempt defending champion and one of the notable American contenders in the field.
