Leona Maguire

Leona Maguire is an Irish professional golfer from County Cavan who competes primarily on the LPGA Tour. Born on 30 November 1994, she is a two-time LPGA Tour winner and reached a career-high world ranking of 10th in 2023, becoming the first Irish woman to break into the top ten on the Rolex Women's World Rankings. She is also a standout performer in the Solheim Cup, representing Europe with an 8-3-1 record across three appearances.

Maguire arrived on the world stage with an exceptional amateur career at Duke University, where she posted the best career scoring average in NCAA women's golf history (70.97 strokes per round over at least 100 rounds). She held the World Amateur Golf Ranking number-one position for a record 131 weeks and won the British Ladies Amateur Championship in 2017. She turned professional in 2018 and earned her LPGA Tour card in late 2019. Her breakthrough came at the 2021 Solheim Cup, where as a rookie she set the all-time record for points by a first-timer in either the Solheim Cup or the Ryder Cup with 4.5 points from five matches. That same year she shot a final-round 61 at the Evian Championship, the lowest final round in major championship history across both men's and women's golf. In February 2022 she became the first Irish woman to win on the LPGA Tour, claiming the LPGA Drive On Championship by three strokes over Lexi Thompson. She added a second title at the 2023 Meijer LPGA Classic and in 2024 became the first Irish woman to win on the Ladies European Tour, at the Aramco Team Series event at Centurion Club in England.

In 2026 Maguire is working through a technical rebuild, having missed the cut in five of ten starts on the season. She finished second at the Aramco Championship in Las Vegas in April, signalling that her ball-striking improvements are capable of producing the results she is chasing as she targets a return to the top ten.
