Matthias "Matti" Schmid, born 18 November 1997 in Germany, is one of European golf's most accomplished young professionals. He competes as a full member of both the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour, and reached a career-high world ranking of 65 in May 2026.

Schmid attended the University of Louisville from 2017 to 2021, developing into one of the leading amateurs in Europe. He won the European Amateur championship in consecutive years, at Diamond Country Club in Austria in 2019 and at Zurich Golf and Country Club in Switzerland in 2020. At the 2021 Open Championship at Royal St George's, he shot a second-round 65 that equalled the record for the lowest round ever made by an amateur at The Open Championship, earning the silver medal as leading amateur. He turned professional immediately after that event and was named Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year on the European Tour for the 2021 season.

On the PGA Tour in 2026, Schmid produced his best major result to date at the PGA Championship at Aronimink, finishing tied fourth at five under par after a standout third-round 65. He entered the final round in the final pairing, two shots off the lead.
