Natalie Anne Gulbis was born on January 7, 1983, in Sacramento, California. She is an American professional golfer of Latvian descent who built her career on the LPGA Tour. Gulbis turned professional in July 2001 at the age of 18 after one season at the University of Arizona, where she was a teammate of Lorena Ochoa. She reached a career-high world ranking of 19th in 2006 and became one of the most recognizable figures in women's golf during the mid-2000s.

Gulbis arrived as a teenage prodigy, having won the California Women's Amateur Championship at 14 and was breaking par by age ten. Despite early commercial success and consistent top-ten finishes, her first LPGA Tour victory did not come until her sixth LPGA season. At the 2007 Evian Masters in France, she defeated Jeong Jang in a playoff, making a two-putt birdie on the first extra hole to claim the title. That victory remained her sole LPGA win across her professional career. She also placed in the top ten of four consecutive major championships across 2005 and 2006, and she earned over one million dollars in prize money in 2005 alone, finishing sixth on the LPGA money list that season.

Beyond her individual record, Gulbis contributed significantly to American team golf. She was a member of three consecutive victorious United States Solheim Cup squads in 2005, 2007, and 2009, and later served as an assistant captain for the 2023 team.
