Rasmus Højgaard was born on 12 March 2001 in Billund, Denmark, and grew up alongside his identical twin brother Nicolai, also a professional golfer. He turned professional at the start of 2019 and quickly secured his DP World Tour card through Qualifying School. He now holds dual membership on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.

His rise was rapid and record-breaking. In just his fifth start as a professional, Højgaard won the 2019 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open at 18 years and 271 days old, making him the third-youngest winner in European Tour history. He followed with the 2020 ISPS Handa UK Championship at age 19, the 2021 Omega European Masters, the 2023 Made in HimmerLand, and then a fifth title at the 2024 Amgen Irish Open at Royal County Down, where he defeated Rory McIlroy by one stroke. That win made him the youngest player since José María Olazábal in 1989 to collect five victories on the European Tour. He finished second in the 2024 Race to Dubai standings, earning PGA Tour membership for 2025.

Højgaard is a long, powerful striker who consistently ranks among the tour leaders in driving distance. His game is built on feel rather than data-led precision, with a rhythmic swing that generates spin and suits links-style conditions as well as softer parkland courses. He has shown particular strength in strokes gained on approach and putting during his best stretches. In the 2026 majors he competed at The Masters at Augusta National and at the PGA Championship at Aronimink, finishing T65 at Aronimink with rounds of 72-71-71-72.
