Tom Kim, born Kim Joo-hyung on June 21, 2002, in Seoul, South Korea, is a professional golfer competing primarily on the PGA Tour. He turned professional in May 2018 and rose quickly through the Philippine Tour and the Asian Development Tour before establishing himself on the Asian Tour and the Korean Tour. By 2022 he had secured PGA Tour membership and become one of the most talked-about young players in the world.
Kim claimed three PGA Tour titles before his 22nd birthday. He won the Wyndham Championship in August 2022, then followed up just months later with victory at the Shriners Children's Open in Las Vegas, becoming the first player to win twice on the PGA Tour before the age of 21 since Tiger Woods in 1996. He defended that Las Vegas title in 2023. His best result in a major came at The Open Championship in 2023 at Royal Liverpool, where he finished tied second behind winner Brian Harman, giving a glimpse of his potential at the sport's highest level. He also recorded a tied-eighth at the U.S. Open in 2023.
Kim is not the longest hitter on tour but compensates with tee-to-green accuracy and a sharp short game. His driving accuracy has ranked among the better marks on the PGA Tour relative to his peers. His formative years were spent in Australia, the Philippines, and Thailand, and he is the son of Kim Chang-ik, himself a former professional golfer who went on to become a teaching professional in those regions.
