Born on November 15, 1995, she stands 5'9" and has represented the People's Republic of China in international team competition, including a bronze medal in women's team golf at the 2022 Asian Games. She has held a career-high Rolex Rankings position of 31st, reached in 2019, and currently sits outside the top 200 on tour.

Liu came through the American college system, attending Duke University and playing for the Blue Devils women's golf team. She was named Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year in 2014 following her freshman season. She turned professional that same year and joined the Symetra Tour in 2015. After steadily building her game on the developmental circuit, she won the 2017 Tullymore Classic by a single stroke at 16 under par, becoming only the third player from China to win on the Symetra Tour. She finished fifth on the Symetra money list that season to earn LPGA Tour membership for 2018.

On the LPGA Tour, Liu has shown the ability to compete at the top of the field on the biggest stages. Her best major result is a tied fifth at the 2019 U.S. Women's Open, and she also posted a tied seventh at the 2018 Ricoh Women's British Open in her debut season.
