Ludvig Aberg is a Swedish professional golfer from Eslöv, Sweden, ranked approximately world number 11, who went from college golf at Texas Tech to the world top 5 faster than almost anyone in the history of the sport. Still in his mid-20s, Aberg has already contended at the Masters, competed in the Ryder Cup, and established himself as the most exciting young talent in men's golf.
The speed of Aberg's ascent is almost disorienting. He turned professional in mid-2023, won on the PGA Tour within months, and was selected for the European Ryder Cup team before most fans had learned to pronounce his name. His game combines length off the tee, measured and consistent rather than wild, with iron play that ranks among the best of his generation. His putting has improved steadily, and his comfort in high-pressure situations was evident from his very first professional starts. He does not play like a young player. He plays like someone who has been doing this for a decade.
The 2024 Masters was the moment Aberg announced himself as a genuine major contender. He was in the final group on Sunday at Augusta National, trading blows with Scottie Scheffler deep into the back nine before finishing second. For a player with so few major starts, the composure was remarkable. There was no wide-eyed overwhelm, no rookie mistakes on Amen Corner. He played Augusta like he had been there before, even though he had not.
In 2026, the question is not whether Aberg will win a major, but when. Augusta National already suits his game, with the par 5s reachable and the elevated greens rewarding his high ball flight. Aronimink will test his iron precision on Ross greens. Shinnecock Hills demands patience that young players sometimes lack, but Aberg has shown maturity beyond his years. Royal Birkdale, with its Scandinavian-style coastal conditions, could feel like home for a Swede who grew up playing in wind. He will compete at all four: The Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and The Open Championship. Swedish fans can follow along in Sweden time.
